Description of Modification
SUMMARY: On April 20, 2012, the Office of Innovation and Improvement in the U.S. Department of Education published in the Federal Register (77 FR 23675) a notice inviting applications for new awards for fiscal year (FY) 2012 for the Promise Neighborhoods implementation grant competition (2012 Implementation Grant NIA). This notice corrects an error in the deadline for transmittal of applications. DATES: Deadline for Transmittal of Applications: July 27, 2012. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: Correction In section IV, Application and Submission Information, the 2012 Implementation Grant NIA indicates that the deadline for transmittal of applications is June 19, 2012, which is incorrect. We correct this NIA as follows: On page 23686, second column, we correct the Deadline for Transmittal of Applications date to read ``July 27, 2012.'' Program Authority: 20 U.S.C. 7243-7243b.

- Purpose of Program: The Promise Neighborhoods program is carried out under the legislative authority of the Fund for the Improvement of Education (FIE), title V, part D, subpart 1, sections 5411 through 5413 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended (ESEA) (20 U.S.C. 7243-7243b). FIE supports nationally significant programs to improve the quality of elementary and secondary education at the State and local levels and to help all children meet challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards.Applications for grants under this competition must be submitted electronically using the Grants.gov Apply site (Grants.gov)You may access the electronic grant application for Promise Neighborhoods Implementation Grant Competition at www.grants.gov.
